Glossary
T1Line.com:
A T1 line is a high-speed digital connection capable of transmitting data at a rate of approximately 1.5 million bps (bits per second). A T1 line is typically used by small and medium-sized companies with heavy network traffic. It is large enough to send and receive very large text files, graphics, sounds, and databases instantaneously, and is the fastest speed commonly used to connect networks to the Internet.
T3 Line
A T3 line is a super high-speed connection capable of transmitting data at a rate of 45 million bps (bits per second). A T3 line represents a bandwidth equal to about 672 regular voice-grade telephone lines, which is wide enough to transmit full-motion, real-time video, and very large databases over a busy network. A T3 line is typically installed as a major networking artery for large corporations and universities with high-volume network traffic.
T1 line - Burstable/Metered
A burstable T1 line is a full T1 that allows you to pay for what you use. Burstable T1 lines carry bandwidth up to 1.54 Mbps and are more cost effective if you only need maximum capacity a few times a month.
DSL
DSL provides a dedicated service over a single telephone line. SDSL carries data at 1.54 Mbps upstream and downstream. This is a best option for small organizations where bandwidth requirements are not mission critical.
OC3 and Up
An OC line is an optical line with varying bandwidth of up to 10Gbps. This is the connection that the ISPs and large corporations need to run their business. If your business needs reliable, dedicated bandwidth at the fastest speeds available, then an OC line is your answer.
